Where NRADC Releases Go
A release from NRADC means that the regional jail's control over one custody episode ended or changed. It does not always mean the person walked into the community. A magistrate or court can authorize bond, a sentence can reach completion, or a court can order another form of release. The regional jail may also transfer a person to the Virginia Department of Corrections, another jail, a hospital, or a different custodian. Each outcome has a different record trail.
For a Fauquier County case, start with the reason NRADC held the person. Fauquier's sheriff states that people can be moved from the county Adult Detention Center to NRADC because of population, medical, or security needs. Such a move is continued jail custody. Later, an NRADC exit could be a community release or another transfer. The regional release or transfer entry should identify the recorded date, time, authority, type, and receiving agency when that information is disclosable.
A disappearance from the NRADC locator is a clue, not proof of community release; request the regional transaction and check the next possible custodian.
Confirm an NRADC Release
The NRADC Find an Inmate page is the right first online check for present regional custody. It does not advertise a released-person archive or a time-limited release history. Search with the most complete identity information available and compare more than a name. A current match supports continued NRADC custody. No match is inconclusive because spelling, data timing, release, or transfer can all explain the result.
Use a short verification sequence that separates status, legal authority, and the physical custody event:
- Check NRADC's current locator and note the facility and identity details shown.
- Call the regional jail and ask whether it can confirm current custody or direct you to the correct records channel.
- Review the Fauquier court case for the bond, disposition, sentence, or other order that may have authorized release.
- Search VADOC if a felony commitment or state transfer is possible. An institutional result means confinement continued.
- Request NRADC's existing admission, release, and transfer entries for the identified custody episode.
The Fauquier County released-inmate search explains how the regional check fits with Fauquier ADC, VADOC, the courts, and VINE. Those sources answer different questions. The court order explains why release was authorized, while the jail transaction records what happened at the facility.
NRADC Records and Contact
Contact the regional authority when NRADC booked, confined, transferred, or released the person. Fauquier County cannot produce a regional record merely because the underlying case began there. Ask NRADC for existing documents with a narrow date range and enough identifiers to distinguish the person.

The official NRADC FOIA page is the records fallback. Request electronic copies when practical and ask for a cost estimate. No fixed release-record price was verified. Virginia FOIA permits actual-cost charges and does not require an agency to create a new report that it does not already maintain.
NRADC Release Record Fields
A focused request gives records staff a clear custody episode to locate. Supply the person's full legal name, useful variants, booking or inmate number if known, approximate admission dates, Fauquier court case number, and the requested date span. Ask for existing records rather than a new narrative or legal conclusion.
| Requested field or document | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Booking or admission entry | When NRADC accepted control and the identity used in its system |
| Commitment and bond entries | The authority for confinement and changes in bond status |
| Release date and time | When the recorded NRADC custody event ended |
| Release type or disposition | Bond, court order, sentence completion, transfer, or another recorded basis |
| Transfer destination | The receiving facility or agency, when disclosable |
| Release order or authority | The order or official direction supporting the transaction |
Not every field must be public. Ask for segregable nonexempt portions, meaning parts that can be disclosed after protected material is removed. If the exact gate time matters, the jail transaction is stronger than a docket entry. If the legal reason matters, obtain the signed court order as well.
NRADC Regional Custody Facts
Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center is a regional jail operated by the Northwestern Regional Jail Authority. Its mission covers Fauquier, Clarke, and Frederick Counties and the City of Winchester. Fauquier joined the authority in 1998 while the Warrenton jail remained open, which explains why the county and regional systems operate at the same time rather than replacing one another.
The capacity figure describes the reported scale of the regional facility. It is not a count of people currently held, booked during a year, or released during any period. Likewise, service of four member jurisdictions does not let a reader infer which court controls a particular case. Use the person's commitment record and case number to identify the originating locality. Those details determine which clerk can supply the order, while the regional authority remains the source for its own custody transaction. Keeping population facts separate from person-level records prevents the facility's size from being mistaken for evidence about one release.
NRADC's intake process includes an inventory of personal property and cash. It may also include fingerprinting and a booking photograph. A magistrate determines bond. A person released on bond leaves secure custody while the pending case continues, but a person who remains confined proceeds through classification. These intake and case steps must not be presented as completed release events.
NRADC's 72-Hour Intake Rule
NRADC uses language about classification within 72 hours during the first stage of confinement. That statement concerns intake and business-day processing for people who remain in custody. It is not a 72-hour released-inmate list, a release deadline, or a public archive covering the prior three days.
No official NRADC 24-hour or 72-hour release feed was found. The website also provides no verified release-log retention period, roster update schedule, or public booking-photo gallery. A reader seeking releases over a defined period should ask whether an existing release log or report is maintained for those dates. If none exists, Virginia FOIA does not require the regional authority to build a new list.
That distinction guards against a serious records error. Classification documents how the jail assigns and manages a person after intake. A release transaction documents the end or change of NRADC control. The two records occur at different stages and answer different questions.
Fauquier Court and NRADC Records
A Fauquier court docket can show a bond ruling, dismissal, plea, sentence, suspended time, probation, or other disposition. General District Court handles many misdemeanors and early felony or bond matters. Circuit Court handles final felony proceedings and appeals. The court record may outlast a current jail result, but it may not show the moment the person physically left NRADC.
Match the signed order to the regional transaction. A bond order permits release only after required conditions are met and other holds are cleared. A sentence marked time served can still be followed by a warrant or transfer. Likewise, a VADOC match after the NRADC result ends indicates state custody, not freedom from confinement.
- Release
- The end of one custodian's control, which may lead to the community or another agency.
- Transfer
- A handoff to another facility or authority while custody continues.
- Bond release
- Pretrial release under court-set terms while the case remains pending.
- Discharge
- Completion of the relevant custody or supervision obligation, not merely a change of facility.
NRADC Release and Detainers
A detainer can redirect an expected NRADC release. It is a request or legal hold tied to another authority. A state or local warrant may lead to transfer, and an immigration detainer can request notice plus up to 48 hours for ICE to assume custody after the person would otherwise be released. The regional exit then records a handoff rather than a return to the community.
No Fauquier County ICE detention contract was verified, and NRADC should not be described as an ICE detention facility on that basis. When immigration custody is genuinely involved, the ICE Online Detainee Locator can be checked. A detainer by itself does not prove ICE completed pickup. The NRADC transfer record and any later ICE result must be reconciled.
The same caution applies to VINE. A local jail alert is an event notice, and wording that combines release with transfer does not establish community release. The best proof remains the custodian's release or transfer entry, paired with the order that supplied legal authority and a check of any receiving system.
